Sir Lancelot Lancelot was a knight that would fight for anybody. He was well respected throughout Britain and France. He was the first knight and the greatest knight at the round table, only King Arthur could’ve met of defeated his powers. Lancelot was born in Brittany to King Ban and Elaine, but was raised by Vivien also known as the Lady of the Lake. Lancelot had many names like Galahad, Launcelot, Lancelot of the Lake, and Lancelot du Lak. Lancelot was a trusted knight of King Arthur, until the day that Lancelot had an affair with Arthur’s wife, Guinevere. Hearing this news Arthur became furious toward Lancelot. Later Arthur had died and then Queen Guinevere had become a nun and Lancelot had retired and was said to have died on Good Friday.

Knighthood was founded around the year 732AD and is still continuing. A knight is a well mannered soldier who is paid to fight and was a part of the warrior class in the middle ages in Europe. There are still knights today, but they are protecting the Queen not fighting on the battlefield. There are three stages to knighthood page, squire, and knight. While in the page step, the knights learn about their armor, how to use their swords, and practice around the castle jousting on horseback or on foot. Also in this stage, they are taught the finer qualities of knighthood including manners, social graces, and the code of chivalry. The next step is a squire. A squire follows his sponsor on the battlefield to take care of him and even battle on his side. Also he will take care of his armor and weapons and was the only one permitted to do so. A squire was also responsible for dressing the knight for jousts and battles. And then you finally become a knight. A squire becomes a knight by his sponsor following a 24-48 hour period of confessing his sins to a priest to cleanse his soul. The next morning the squire appears before his sponsor and is tapped on the shoulders three times to remind him of his vows. After this ceremony, he is officially a knight.
